Crisis Funding & Emergency Donations FAQ

The Vincent Chin Legacy Guide:

Asian Americans Building the Movement

What would you do if you, a family member or a friend became the victim of anti-Asian hate or the target of violence? The Vincent Chin Institute has prepared this Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to help survivors, families, and community members receive emergency funds following an act of violence.

This FAQ can help you:

• Understand three common methods of emergency funding that could help you and your family.

• Learn how to manage large numbers of donations from people you might not know.

• Understand some of the pros and cons of accepting donations as an individual or a group of survivors, including possible consequences to your immigration status or public assistance if you receive government aid.

• Find trustworthy and reliable sources of advice and help.

To create this FAQ, the Vincent Chin Institute asked a wide range of lawyers, immigration advocates, funders, media experts, tax professionals, and community members. However, this FAQ does not replace professional legal, financial, and other advice for specific situations. For advice pertaining to your issue or case, seek qualified professional help.
